When it comes to discussing migration, the conversation often begins with statistics. As of 2020, the global estimate suggests approximately 281 million international migrants worldwide, accounting for around 3.6% of the global population.

Migrating to a new country is a monumental journey loaded with challenges, whether it’s in terms of the overall complexity of the process, or emotional and financial confronts. For many, this transition can be overwhelming, especially when relocating with family or moving to a country with a stronger currency. The initial years pose significant hurdles, even with a promising job offer in hand. Understanding local laws, healthcare systems, taxation, banking, schooling and more becomes paramount. Doing these five things could be really helpful if you are planning for migration or have recently moved to a new country.

1. Connect with Your Community

Establishing a support network is invaluable. Seek out individuals from your community or home country who can offer guidance and understanding. There will be no language barriers with people from your community in case you are not confident with the new country’s language.
